Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a fast, athletic team game.

To play you have to be swift, skilful and fearless.

It was originally played by native Americans and slowly became popular all over the world.

The matches start with a draw which is taken by the person playing in centre position, and the game restarts with a draw after each goal.

It can look scary as you use a stick. It's a bit like a hockey stick but the netting means you can catch, carry and throw the ball.

It can be played in men's or women's teams. Men's games are faster and more violent, so the players all wear helmets.

About the game

You tackle by trying to knock the ball out of your opponents stick. Lacrosse is a non-contact sport and if you use your stick dangerously you commit a foul.

It's not just the sticks that can hurt, the ball is made of rubber and we throw it fast, which is why the goalie wears pads and a helmet.

All players wear gum shield, and in the men's game they also wear helmets.
